We’re making a splash for water safety and you’re invited!
As families gear up for peak swim season and the Fourth of July holiday — historically the most dangerous time for water-related accidents — the Kenosha YMCA, in partnership with the Safety Around Water Coalition, is stepping up to equip local kids with lifesaving water safety skills.
On Thursday, June 26th at 5pm, children ages 5 and up are invited to join tens of thousands of participants across six continents in The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ (WLSL) — a free, global event designed to raise awareness and help reduce drowning, especially among children.

Equipping Kids with Lifesaving Skills
The Kenosha YMCA’s and Safety Around Water Coalition’s participation in this movement marks a significant milestone for our community.
“Every child deserves the protection that swim skills provide,” said Stephanie Zuehls, Kenosha YMCA’s Aquatics Director. “We’re not just teaching children how to swim — we’re empowering them with practical skills and confidence when they need it most.”
The event’s timing is intentional. Research shows that the days surrounding the Fourth of July represent the peak of drowning risk in the U.S., as families gather around pools, lakes, and beaches. This initiative helps make sure children are prepared and safer during these high-risk days.
About The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™
Since its launch, the WLSL has reached over 413,000 children and adults in 54 countries, promoting water safety and drowning prevention through engaging instruction and community collaboration. The event is held across six continents in a synchronized effort to make every child safer around water.
Together, we can make a huge, lifesaving difference — and show the world that Swimming Lessons Save Lives™!
