Self Defense 1

When people hear “self-defense class,” they often picture intense sparring, advanced martial arts moves, or high-level fighters.

That’s not what this is.

Confidence You Can Carry With You

At the Kenosha YMCA, our 8-week Self-Defense training course is designed for everyday people — ages 14 and up — who simply want to feel more confident, aware, and prepared in their daily lives.

No experience needed.
No special fitness level required.
Just a willingness to learn.

Meet Your Instructor: Chip Wienke

But what stands out most isn’t the resume.

It’s his philosophy.

“Everyone deserves safety. But safety comes from creating and maintaining solid boundaries.”

Chip doesn’t teach people how to fight. He teaches people how to think, observe, and respond in real-world situations.

That’s what makes this course different from a traditional martial arts class.

Self-Defense Is Not About Fighting

There’s a common misconception that self-defense classes are about learning a few “magic moves.”

Real self-defense is different.

It’s about awareness, recognizing situations early, understanding body language and communication. It’s about having options.

Athletes compete. Fighters consent to a match. Self-defense is about protecting yourself when you haven’t chosen conflict.

With training comes choice and confidence.
