The Kenosha YMCA distributed 75+ turkeys to families in need on November 17, 2021. The opportunity came from a donation from the Kenosha Country Club, a long-time YMCA partner.
Deidre Ripee, general manager of KCC, stated, “We do the Turkey Shoot each year in the fall – usually the third or fourth Saturday of October. It is a golf event that the members participate in to raise money to buy turkeys for a local charity/organization. The head golf pro, Eric Malone, and myself are out on the first tee talking to members and signing them up for the event as they go out and play. This year we raised a little over $1,200 and had 49 members participate. The YMCA has had great outings here, and we knew about their programs, so I called the Executive Director, Cindy Altergott.”
The Kenosha YMCA has nine after-school sites, and the turkeys will be given to families that could use a little extra help this year. Rachel Mall, Kenosha YMCA’s Youth Development Director, says, “This is so wonderful for the families we serve, and they are very grateful.”
The food will be distributed to students and their families at the Y Achievers programs located at Frank Elementary School, Brass Community School, Mahone Middle School, Lincoln Middle School, and the YMCA Feeding Families Program at Kenosha Christian Reformed Church.
